Thomas had a good weekend. His infection is nearly gone and this allows him more and more time to be off the vent off and on what they call a "trach collar". They are really working with him to try and make these "trach collar" sessions longer and consistent. So, since he did 3 hour sessions consistently on Friday, and 4 hour sessions on Saturday, we shot for 5 hours on Sunday! And he did it - both his afternoon and late evening sessions! Today's goal is 6.
Three exciting things happened this weekend:
1) Thomas got a shave, by his loving wife.
2) Natalie and the nursing team got to take Thomas outside. It was no small feat but Thomas truly enjoyed it and said it was worth it!
3) He was able to have a speaking valve connected to his trach. He sent a video home to his family, who were grateful to be able hear his voice!
Update on Surgery
They did another CTscan to see the status of the infection. When they get the news that the infection is gone, they will remove his halo and put Thom in what's called "bedside traction" for the day. This is a very simplified halo device that has two small pins to stabilize the head, while letting the neck relax. If simple traction can be done today, then surgery will be tomorrow. If not, Thursday. Again, it all hinges on the status of the infection.
Tomorrow, August 6th we will begin a novena for Thomas to the Servant of God, Luisa Piccarreta. The Novena prayer and more information will be posted later today. If you have the desire to join us, we would appreciate it. We are so very grateful for the prayers of so many people.
Join us in prayer!
Thom and Natalie - been closely following your news and praying for your progress. Be Strong!
ReplyDeleteNiki is singing the National AnthemS (US ... and Canadian, for visiting team...) at the Hawks farm (literally) team here next week and we will try to slip a request for prayers there, so if you feel a few thousand more well wishers, please realize you have more friends than you know.
With great love from your Boise family,
Tim, Xiaoling, Niki, Victor

ReplyDeleteHi Thomas,
ReplyDeleteMy prayers go out to you for a full recovery. I hope you are back home with your family very soon. While you and I are on opposing sides on some important issues, we are all human beings. God always wants us to love and support each other.
Keep getting better every day!
