Saturday was another day of moving forward, progress, and Thom's continued high spirits. The X-ray of his shoulder came back and shows no injury/damage. They are looking into other explanations, e.g. strain, torn muscle, etc.
Thomas spent 4 hours this morning off the ventilator, breathing totally unassisted, and asked to see his email accounts (something that Natalie could not keep him from for too long) and the recovery blog. He was so pleased to see the blog! He is definitely overwhelmed by all of the prayers and well wishes!
Thomas spent the afternoon sitting in his chair, working on his breathing muscles. The speech therapist came by again and is pleased with his swallowing - the ice chips are a great exercise and definitely helping. He may be able to try a sip of water tomorrow during the time he is off the ventilator.
Friends stopped by and brought some very cheery balloons which definitely brighten up the room! He is very much his dynamic, outgoing self when visitors come over - and it's wonderful to see him smiling! They had hoped to take him off the vent for another 4 hours, but he was just too exhausted, he fell asleep by 8:30 pm - a first for him!
In less exciting news, his high fever continues. They have taken cultures which have come back negative; Thom is not suffering from fatigue or aches from fever, so his doctors are watching it, but not terribly concerned. His body temp, however, has been hard to regulate, and he often feels cold. Progress and baby steps every day!
We are grateful for your prayers; please keep them coming.
Join us in prayer!
We're so glad to hear that they didn't find anything wrong in the xrays of your shoulder, Thom. Sorry to hear about your continued fever, but so happy to hear you're off the ventilator for 4 hours at a time. Good going! We're hoping and praying with you and for you every day and throughout the day too! God Bless You!
