Last Update for Tonight
Halo procedure was successful, but resulted in elevated pain and Thomas is being treated for that, which is postponing the beginning of physical therapy. He is undergoing more advanced lung treatments, to make steps towards removing the breathing tubes within the next few days. On a positive note, Thomas asked for coffee this evening but of course he can't have any just yet. Focusing on rest tonight, tomorrow promises to be a full day.

Prayers for Thomas and his complete recovery.
ReplyDeleteBreaks neck and asks for coffee. That's so something I would do. We're praying for you, Thom. Love you man.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the updates. In 2002 I suffered a spinal cord injury, also at C5, although my spinal cord was pinched, which left me a quadriplegic. I don't want to give you false hope, but I've had a lot of experience with SCI and from the description you've given of Thomas' condition, it sounds like he has a great chance to make a full/near full recovery. You may not hear this from the doctor's & therapists, because they are trained not to give predictions, or what they see as false hope.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that his cord wasn't damaged and that he has the sensation & mobility you've described is what gives me so much hope for him. Please be aware though, recover is a slow process. The key to the most successful recovery will be, (as well as Our Blessed Mother's intersession) to get him to a spinal cord injury rehabilitation center. Here is a good resource for choosing one.

I'm praying for him, and your family. If you have any questions and I can be of any help, please don't hesitate to ask. My email is Irishquad at gmail dot com.
God bless you,
Christopher
I have been praying for Thomas and will continue to do so. I've been reading his columns for years.
ReplyDeleteWe continue to pray for Thom's recovery. As my husband said in prayer this morning,we pray both for the physical recovery and physical pain (my husband said from his injury he wanted to "cuss out" his physical therapist daily, but she got him moving again, even with his range of motion issues now they are much better than they would have been otherwise!) as well as the psychological/emotional pains. My husband said those were the most enduring and hardest to get through and most unexpected for him. We will continue to storm heaven, because we know from experience what those prayers mean. God Bless you all.
ReplyDeleteUgh. The poor guy. Can they give him IV caffeine? We're praying for him, his wife, and the whole family. I really appreciate all the work he's done for the Church in America.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are keeping Thomas, Natalie and the rest of their family in our prayers. We hope and pray for Thomas's full recovery.
ReplyDeletePlease do not overlook the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. Dr. Barth Green and his team do amazing work. I am forever grateful to Dr. Green and his team for giving me the gift of continued mobility.
